Safe Plastics

We aim to redefine childrens' relationship with plastic toys, starting with the materials we use to manufacture our toys right here in Melbourne, Australia. Once limited to petrochemical sources, plastic now includes organic alternatives that transform our relationship with this material, offering a more sustainable, safe and eco-friendly option for childrens' developmental play time.

What is Organic Plastic?

Organic plastics, or bioplastics, are a new group of fully renewable plastics made from plant starch sources including corn, sugarcane, and cassava. These eco-friendly materials use 65% less energy to produce and reduce carbon emissions by up to 68% compared to traditional petrochemical plastics.

Rising Allergies and Eczema in Children

There has been a global rise in allergies and eczema among children. Increased exposure to chemicals containing diisocyanates, commonly used in manufacturing, is a contributing factor. By shifting to organic plastics, we can reduce children’s exposure to these harmful substances. Since play environments encompass a large portion of a child's daytime development, choosing safer, non-toxic, organic plastics can have a meaningful positive impact on their health.

PolyLactic Acid (PLA)

PLA, a non-toxic organic plastic is derived from plant starches. Naturally opaque, it can be infused with colour, offering a wide range of hues for manufacturing. It typically has a semi-gloss finish, however adding plant-based cellulose can create a matte texture, enhancing the tactile experience for sensory toys. This versatility allows for a broad spectrum of colours and finishes, making it ideal for creating engaging and safe educational experiences.
